Historic Downtown Red Oak

RAGBRAI, the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, is not just a test of endurance and a showcase of the state’s landscapes; it’s also a celebration of community and culture. This year, as cyclists make their way to Red Oak, they’re in for a treat with a lineup of six diverse bands ready to rock the stage. Here’s a sneak peek at the musical acts that will be performing.

Gallivant

Gallivant (Noon)

Gallivant takes the stage at noon, ready to kick off the festivities with their vibrant blend of music. Known for their energetic performances, Gallivant’s sound is a perfect match for the spirited atmosphere of RAGBRAI.

Gallivant is a three piece, riff-based, rock ‘n’ roll band out of Omaha Nebraska. Paying tribute to all of the greats in the history of rock ‘n’ roll, while also bringing a fresh breath to the genre, with heavy focus on their tight and very active stage show. Formed in 2015, Gallivant has released 2 full length albums and has become a staple for Rock ‘n’ Roll representation in the current day and age. With frequent touring over the years Gallivant has been referred to as “A well-oiled Circus Act” packing an arena sized show onto stages all over the country!

Gas N' Grass

Gas N' Grass (1:20 PM)

As the name suggests, Gas N Grass mixes the raw power of rock with the soulful twang of country. Taking the stage in the early afternoon, they’re sure to fuel the crowd with their foot-stomping tunes.

Based in Shenandoah, Iowa, Gas N’ Grass emerges as a dynamic force in the realm of teen rock bands. Recently earning the prestigious title of Iowa’s top youth rock talent in 2023, this spirited ensemble captivates audiences with their infectious energy and diverse repertoire. From the timeless allure of 80’s radio hits to the raw intensity of early 2000s rock, Gas N’ Grass delivers a thrilling musical experience that resonates with fans of all ages. Gas N’ Grass features Jack Murren as lead vocalist, Brayton Mcfarland on lead guitar, Davin Holste on bass guitar, and Drew Morelock on the drums.

Into The Gray (2:40 PM)

Mid-afternoon brings the nuanced sounds of Into The Gray. This band’s introspective lyrics and melodic harmonies offer a moment of reflection amidst the day’s excitement.

Into the Gray is a rocking R and B band based in Kansas City, Mo.  Their music encompasses latin, jazz, blues, reggae and rock music to form a unique sound all their own.  Jessica Gray fronts the band with powerhouse vocals.  Skinny Webb plays a fiery guitar is the leader of the band and is in the Iowa Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, Jeff Turk grooves on the bass, and legendary KC drummer Kent Burnham provides the foundation.  Formed in 2018, they have recorded two albums, Lil Bird and Revelation.  The band performs both as a 4 piece electric with drums and a 3 piece acoustic without drums for a more mellow but just as powerful show.

The Mercury's

The Mercury’s (4:30 PM)

The Mercurys are all about retro vibes with a modern twist. Their set promises to be a nostalgic trip with a fresh edge, perfect as the day transitions into evening.

The Mercurys, who are in the Iowa Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, are a band forged in friendship when guitarist Larry “Lash” LaRue and Todd “Diablo” Dickey found common grounds in 1987. While both cut their teeth in other bands, it was obvious to Omaha that these two would form a force in roots and rock-a-billy. By 1994, the spark that set the fire ignited! Quickly, the the trio was completed by Mike “Ringo” Maguire and the heartland was a blaze, the sounds of hollowbody guitar, slapbass, and drums filled the old haunts and blues clubs. The Mercurys were born a live band hitting the stage like a midwestern work horse, these three rolling into their 30th year together. Still friends, still playing, still lighting fires.

Commotion (6:30 PM)

As the name implies, Commotion is here to shake things up. Their high-octane performance will rev up the crowd, ensuring that the energy levels stay high as the sun set.

Step into a virtual time machine and journey back to the glory days of the late 60s and early 70s with Commotion – the most electrifying and authentic Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute band on the planet!  There leader is in National Rock N Roll Hall of Fame and Carly Simon is based out of Fairfield, IA. Get ready to experience the unforgettable hits and legendary sound of CCR, as Commotion takes you on a musical voyage that will leave you awe-inspired and craving for more.

Pet Rock

Pet Rock (8:20 PM)

Closing out the night is Pet Rock who is based out of Omaha, a band that’s as classic as they come. With hits that everyone can sing along to, they’re the ideal act to end a day of cycling and celebration on a high note.

The ‘70s were the best of times. Music was made by musicians, singers could sing and rock was best heard live. Experience the ultimate age of album rock once more with PetRock’s live tribute show that you have to hear to believe. No loops, drum machines, or canned vocals here. Only pure rock goodness that can’t be faked, played by musicians who can’t be beaten.

J.J. Cruise, Duke Bradford, Steely Dana, Blitz Holiday, Flam Tapman, and The Maestro: Pet Rock’s six stellar musicians have brought thousands of fans to their feet and left them screaming for more.
